The 48-year-old rapper apologizes to Rihanna through the song “Zeus” in his new album titled “Music to Be Murdered By – Side B”.
On December 20, Just Jared reported that Eminem had decided to apologize to Rihanna. He expressed sorrow for the decade-old lyrics about Chris Brown that leaked in 2019, where he rapped that he sided with Brown — who pleaded guilty for assaulting his then-girlfriend, rising pop star Rihanna.
Eminem raps that: “But, me, long as I re-promise to be honest / And wholeheartedly, apologies, Rihanna,” and continues: “For that song that leaked, I’m sorry, Ri / It wasn’t meant to cause you grief. Regardless, it was wrong of me.”
“Zeus” is a song in the new album of “the King of rap” called “Music to Be Murdered By – Side B”. It was co-produced with his longtime collaborator Dr. Dre and also features DJ Premier, Ty Dolla $ign and Sly Pyper.
The musician is referring to an unreleased track leaked in 2019, in which he backed US singer Chris Brown, who assaulted Rihanna in 2009. In the untitled track, Eminem said: “Of course I side with Chris Brown.” Eminem’s rap was quickly criticized by the media and international audiences becaused fans were sure that the lyrics were aimed at Rihanna as the singer was brutally assaulted by Chris Brown in February 2009, right before the Grammy Awards.
The photo of Rihanna with a bruised face posted by TMZ shook the media. Violence has become a topic exploited by the media for a long time. Chris Brown was then sentenced to six months of community service, five years’ probation and a year of domestic violence counselling.
Eminem and Rihanna have collaborated several times, including on “Numb” on her 2012 album titled “Unapologetic” and “The Monster” from “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” in 2013. In 2010, the hit “Love the Way You Lie” marked the successful collaboration between Eminem and Riri which stirred up many music charts.
